A Moment

I want to share a story I heard on the stereo today. It's one I'm very familiar with seeing as how it's a song by Randy Travis. But it's a beautiful story and one that should inspire one to take a moment and count their blessings. You probably have more than you realize.

Three Wooden Crosses
Randy Travis

A farmer and a teacher, a hooker and a preacher
Riding on a midnight bus, bound for Mexico
One was headed for vacation, one for higher education
And two of them were searching for lost souls

That driver never ever saw the stop sign
And 18-wheelers can’t stop on a dime

(Chorus)
There are, three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway
Why there’s not four of them, heaven only knows
I guess it’s not what you take when you leave this world behind you
It’s what you leave behind you when you go

That farmer left a harvest, a home and 80 acres
The faith and love for growing things in his young son’s heart
And that teacher left her wisdom in the minds of lots of children
And did her best to give them all a better start

And that preacher whispered, "Can’t you see the promise land?"
As he laid his blood stained Bible in that hooker’s hand

(Chorus)

That’s the story that our preacher told last Sunday
As he held that blood stained Bible up for all of us to see
He said "Bless the farmer and the teacher and the preacher
Who gave this Bible to my mama who read it to me."

There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway
Why there’s not four of them, now I guess we know
It’s not what you take when you leave this world behind you
It’s what you leave behind you when you go

There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway

Ha Ha, Made You Think

Top Ten Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian

10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by
other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of
yours.

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people
evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical
claim that we were created from dirt.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a
Triune God.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to
Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah
slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the
elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children,
and trees!

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about
gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy
Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed,
came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the
scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find
nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen
sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the
exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all
rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And
yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have
failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor
speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove"
Christianity.

2 - You define 0.01% as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered
prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think
that the remaining 99.99% FAILURE was simply the will of God.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about
the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a
Christian.

Practice Kindness

"So many gods, so many creeds,
So many paths that wind and wind,
While just the art of being kind,
Is all this sad world needs."

Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Grain Of Wisdom

Heraklietos of Ephesos:

Whosoever wishes to know about the world must learn about it in its particular details.
Knowledge is not intelligence.
In searching for the truth be ready for the unexpected.
Change alone is unchanging.
The same road goes both up and down.
The beginning of a circle is also its end.
Not I, but the world says it: all is one.
And yet everything comes in season.

Hail The Brave, Stone The Cowards

"In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce and brave man,
hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, however, the timid join
him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot."
Mark Twain

Sucks that so many people are only brave because someone else went before them, made the sacrifices and paved the way for the coward's easy walk. The only change a coward is willing to make is to switch his allegiance to the winning side and yet they'll talk as if they made any kind of real contribution. How can they contribute anything when they weren't willing to sacrifice anything? Not even their voice?

Happy 4th, You Bastards. Those Who Forget The Past...

As borrowed from MySpace:

In a couple days is a national holiday commemorating July 4th when American colonies declared their independence from England in 1776. While many in the US hang flags, attend parades and watch fireworks, Independence Day is not a cause of celebration for everyone.

For Native Americans it is a bitter reminder of colonialism, which brought disease, genocide and the destruction of their culture and way of life.

Pay Your Damn Rent

"The service we render to others is really the rent we pay for our room on this earth."

W. Grenfell

Stop being lazy, selfish and cowardly. We all have rent to pay so pay it!You're fortunate to have what you do. What about those who have less or nothing? Are you so lucky in life that you can't spend 2 seconds to give a sh*t about anyone else? What do you do for the greater good? Who's time here on earth is made a little better by your touch? Maybe you should give that some thought before bragging about what you spent your money on today as if it really impresses anyone.
